The people at ESPN are smiling.

Next Friday, they’re going to have their high school football game of the year.

It will be St. John Bosco (3-0), the defending CIF state Open Division bowl champion, taking on Bishop Gorman (5-0), the defending Nevada state champion, in a 6 p.m. game in Las Vegas on ESPNU.

St. John Bosco is ranked No. 1 by USA Today and Bishop Gorman is No. 2. So at least one poll wil have the game as No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the nation.

It’s going to be hard to top last year’s St. John Bosco-De La Salle game last December, but this one should come close.

The battle of the quarterbacks will be interesting. UCLA-bound Josh Rosen gets a national TV audience to show his skills. Sophomore Tate Martell has been key to Bishop Gorman knocking off Southern California powers Servite, Corona Centennial and Santa Margarita, 41-10, on Friday night.

To me, if St. John Bosco is going to win, running back Sean McGrew will need a big game. There’s going to be lots of points scored.

I’ll be going to Las Vegas and giving Twitter and blogging updates. And maybe stop by a buffet before hand, because it’s going to be a night to remember.
