Wright is disciplined but can play

USC Coach Pete Carroll is disciplining cornerback Shareece Wright for his role in an incident that led to his being charged with felony resisting a police officer, but the junior will play against Oregon State if cleared medically to do so, Carroll said Sunday.

Carroll declined to specify the nature of the disciplinary action.

“When we have situations and issues to deal with we always do so internally,” Carroll said after the Trojans practiced for the first time in three days.

Wright was arraigned last week in San Bernardino County Superior Court in connection with an incident at a party in Colton on Sept. 7. The junior started against Ohio State, but he did not practice last week because of an unspecified injury that was causing neck pain.

Wright participated in non-contact drills on Sunday but has not been cleared for full contact and is scheduled to have more tests today, said Dr. James Tibone, USC’s team physician.

USC plays Oregon State at Corvallis, Ore., on Thursday night. If Wright does not play, junior Kevin Thomas could start in his place. Thomas intercepted a pass in the Trojans’ victory at Virginia.

Green day

Aaron Corp or Mitch Mustain are listed as quarterback Mark Sanchez’s backup on USC’s depth chart for Oregon State, but junior Garrett Green took nearly all of the second-team snaps on Sunday despite a sore knee.

“They brought me in and said I was going to be taking second-team reps,” said Green, who has not thrown a pass this season. “We didn’t talk about anything like what that means long term or anything like that.

“We’ll see how that goes. I’m just going to try and complete some balls and see what happens.”

Carroll said the competition for the No. 2 job remains open.

“He’s done a real nice job when he’s had his chances,” Carroll said of Green.

Linebacker Chris Galippo, a redshirt freshman who had back surgery 11 weeks ago, practiced after receiving clearance for full contact but he said he has not yet been cleared to play against Oregon State. . . . Sanchez, after watching several college games on television over the weekend: “They talked about the [Southeastern Conference], I heard that almost every broadcast. And ‘Did you see SC last week? They beat Ohio State. They must be the best.’ As much as we like that and as great as that sounds . . . we can’t fall prey to that because it’ll really ruin a season like this.”
