On Tuesday, the Lakers increased the team’s roster to 18, signing free agents Jabari Brown, Roscoe Smith, Keith Appling and Jeremy Tyler.

Brown, who played with Lakers rookie Jordan Clarkson last season at Missouri, is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard who went undrafted in June. With the Tigers, the 21-year-old Brown averaged 19.9 points a game while shooting 46.7% from the field and 41% from three-point range.

Smith, a 23-year-old small forward from UNLV who also went undrafted, was part of the Lakers’ summer league entry in Las Vegas, averaging 5 points on 56.3% shooting from the field through five games. With the Runnin’ Rebels, Smith contributed 11.1 points and 10.9 rebounds a game.

Michigan State point guard Appling averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 assists a game with the Spartans. The 6-foot-1, 22-year-old wasn’t selected in June’s draft.

Tyler is the only one of the four with NBA experience, drafted with the 39th overall pick in 2011 by the Golden State Warriors (in a draft day trade with the Charlotte Bobcats, now Hornets). The 6-foot-9 power forward was dealt in 2013 to the Atlanta Hawks, who cut him loose two weeks later. After a brief stint with the New York Knicks, Tyler was traded to the Sacramento Kings (along with recent Lakers signee Wayne Ellington).

Both Tyler and Ellington were waived by the Kings.

Through 104 appearances over three seasons, Tyler has averaged 3.6 points and 2.6 rebounds a game.

The Lakers did not release contract terms for their new players, but the three rookies will earn $507,336 for the coming season and Tyler $948,163 -- but only if they make the team and last through the 2014-15 season.

A maximum of 15 players can make the regular season roster. The Lakers have 13 guaranteed, while Ellington’s contract partially locks in if he lasts to Nov. 15.

The team can add two more players before training camp opens with media day on Monday.
