After the Lakers secured the seventh seed in the Western Conference on Wednesday evening, the players began to prepare for their first-round playoff opponent in various ways.

Coach Kobe Bryant stayed up late, scheming.

Tweeted Bryant at about 1 a.m.: “Going to sleep now. Enough thinking about how to beat the spurs for one night. It’s our 12th yr anniversary tomorrow #blessed #soulmate

Pau Gasol, the intellectual, strategized about how to best stop Tim Duncan.

Said Gasol: “Make it hard for him. He’s been playing really well, he’s been very effective this season. Make him shoot over the top of myself and Dwight [Howard]. Make it tough for him. Not allow him to get going and get good looks in the post and get easy shots from the top of the key. Just again, make it really hard on him and hopefully contain him to a low-shooting percentage.”

Then there was Metta World Peace, the man who recently said he was too sexy for his cat in response to a question about his quick recovery from a knee injury.

When asked how scary the Lakers are right now after Wednesday’s win, World Peace didn’t analyze the game or his play.

Instead, he channeled his inner ghost.

“Very scary right now, like Halloween, woooooooo,” he said. “Very scary. Boo. Boo. We here. We here.”

Is that a direct message to the Spurs?

“No, it’s Halloween time. Boo,” World Peace said. “I love Halloween. I love candy.”
