Blue Jays trade for Padres’ Upton

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. from San Diego for minor league right-hander Hansel Rodriguez. Upton, batting .256 with 16 home runs, 45 RBIs and 20 stolen bases, is under contract through 2017.

Sale criticizes Ventura

Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale, suspended for destroying throwback uniforms the team was to wear Saturday, told MLB.com he doesn’t regret standing up for what he believed and said Manager Robin Ventura should have stood up for his players. Ventura shook off the remark, saying, “Everything that happened in [the clubhouse] I’m going to keep it in there.”
