Matt West pitches two scoreless innings in debut with Dodgers

Carlos Frias struggled in Saturday’s 6-2 loss against the Giants, but the Dodgers’ thinning bullpen showed signs of life as Matt West allowed one hit and no earned runs in two innings to finish the game.
West made his Dodgers debut in his second call-up with the team after being added to the roster on May 31.
“We didn’t get to see him last time he came,” Manager Don Mattingly said. “He threw the ball good, he attacked, so that was a positive.”
A 2007 second-round pick of the Texas Rangers, West’s road to the majors has been bumpy. He was drafted as an infielder and was suspended during his first season in the Arizona Rookie League for using performance-enhancing drugs.
In 2011, he converted to pitcher, and spent the last four seasons bouncing around between low-A ball and the major leagues.
West found out about the call-up Saturday morning and only had time to text his fiancée and immediate family members the good news before heading to Los Angeles.
“I pretty much just hurried up, tried to pack up all my stuff, and flew out,” West said.
