Dodgers’ McCourt nearly hits bottom

It’s always interesting to rate the bosses, isn’t it? In this case, it’s all about the top five owners in the major leagues -- and, of course, the five worst.

The best? The Boston Red Sox duo of owner John Henry and Chairman Tom Werner, at least according to list-maker Ken Davidoff of Newsday. Next is Arte Moreno of the Angels, Mike Ilitch of the Detroit Tigers, Jerry Reinsdorf of the Chicago White Sox and Mark Attanasio of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The opposite end of the spectrum is headed by Peter Angelos of the Baltimore Orioles, then John Moores of the San Diego Padres, Robert Castellini of the Cincinnati Reds, Drayton McLane Jr. of the Houston Astros and Frank McCourt of the Dodgers.

Stay tuned to see if Manny Ramirez shakes up the bottom of that list a little bit.

Hanky panky

He’s ready for some football. Still. That would be country star Hank Williams Jr., who will be performing the Monday Night Football anthem this year for the 20th season. According to ESPN, this season’s scenario is a little different. Williams is without a band and he’s welcoming fans with a house party scene.

The Indianapolis Star reports there are exactly 778 beer taps at the new Lucas Oil Stadium. And it’s not true that 778 is really the area code of the closest bar.

Mark is thirsty

While we’re on the subject, sort of, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Mark Cuban, who is bidding on the Cubs, was seen at Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, O’Brien’s Restaurant, The Kerryman and the Lodge -- all well-known, late-night Chicago eateries/watering holes, where sports is the undisputed No. 1 topic every night.
