Ochoa up by three as teen falls off pace

Defending champion Lorena Ochoa birdied six of her final 12 holes in a six-under-par 66 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead in the Navistar LPGA Classic at Prattville, Ala., with 14-year-old Alexis Thompson falling eight strokes behind after a 74.

The top-ranked Ochoa had a 16-under 200 total on the Senator course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Capitol Hill complex.

Sandra Gal (66) was second at 13 under.

Tom Watson shot a bogey-free six-under 64 on the one-year anniversary of his left hip surgery to take a four-stroke lead in the Senior Players Championship, the final Champions Tour major of the year.

The 60-year-old Watson, trying to become the oldest senior major winner, had a 12-under 198 total on Baltimore Country Club/Five Farms’ East Course at Timonium, Md. Loren Roberts (65), John Cook (65) and Mark Wiebe (66) were tied for second.

Scott Piercy shot a six-under 66 for a share of the lead with Matt Kuchar after the third round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship at Verona, N.Y.

With the sun shinning after two days of heavy rain, Kuchar had a 67 to match Piercy at 14-under 202 on the Atunyote Golf Club course.

Derek Lamely shot a course-record 62 to move into a share of the lead after the third round of the Nationwide Tour’s $1-million Soboba Classic at the Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto. Lamely, a rookie on the tour, eagled the par-four 17th hole and birdied No. 18 to finish the third round tied with Brian Stuard at 14-under-par 199 on the par-71 course.

Stuard has yet to win and has only one top-10 finish in his 39 Nationwide starts. Lamely has one victory, but a win here would be worth $180,000.

Second-round leader Jerod Turner shot a 66 and is one shot off the lead.

Beckham may go back to Milan

David Beckham is in talks with the Galaxy about going to AC Milan on another loan and then returning to Major League Soccer again, MLS Commissioner Don Garber told the Associated Press.

Beckham confirmed that he is close to returning to Milan.

The Czech Republic rallied to beat Costa Rica, 3-2, at the Under-20 World Cup at Alexandria, Egypt, but Costa Rica still reached the knockout stage on goal difference, eliminating the United States.

Venus Williams wins in Beijing

Third-seeded Venus Williams defeated Vera Dushevina of Russia, 6-2, 7-6 (1), in the first round of the China Open at Beijing.

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia overcame a sloppy first set to beat Robin Soderling of Sweden, 1-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2, and set up a Malaysia Open final against Fernando Verdasco at Kuala Lumpur.

Alleged stalker to face charges

Michael David Barrett was ordered back to California from Chicago to face charges that he stalked ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and videotaped her nude with a cellphone through an altered peephole in her hotel room door.

Cleveland Browns rookie running back James Davis will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury. . . . Buffalo Bills reserve defensive end Chris Ellis has been ruled out of today’s game at Miami because of an undisclosed family emergency. . . . Ernie Lopez, 63

Ernie “Indian Red” Lopez, who twice fought for the world welterweight title in front of sellout crowds at the Forum in the early ‘70s, losing both times to Jose Napoles, died Friday in Utah. The brother of Danny Lopez, Ernie Lopez was 63.
