Blake Bortles: NFL teams asked about girlfriend Lindsey Duke at combine

Share

Lindsey Duke has a bit of a following -- the up-and-coming model has 33,740 followers on Instagram and 17,300 on Twitter.

That’s way more than her boyfriend, former Central Florida quarterback and top NFL prospect Blake Bortles (11,110 on Instagram and 14,000 on Twitter).

So it may not have been a huge surprise to Bortles when Duke’s name came up more than once during the interview process at last weekend’s NFL scouting combine.

Still, that didn’t stop the experience from being a bit “awkward,” Bortles said on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday.

“It was kind of some awkward [questions],” said Bortles, who is expected by many to be one of the top three quarterbacks picked in May’s draft. “You know, ‘If we come to town, will she be there for dinner?’ and stuff like that.”

Awkward? More like creepy, if you ask me.

But Bortles said it really wasn’t like that. He told Patrick that it seemed like various team officials might have wanted “to see how I reacted to it.”

Makes sense. After all, Duke has already appeared on at least one magazine cover and seems to enjoy sharing provocative photos of herself on social media. All of that could cause some distractions for her boyfriend if he happened to be the jealous type -- and if there’s one thing NFL teams don’t like, it’s distractions.

But it sounds like Bortles handled the situation just fine.

“It was all right,” said the 6-foot-3, 230-pound quarterback who completed 67.8% of his passes for 3,581 yards with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions in leading Central Florida to the Fiesta Bowl. “It was all stuff I had heard before.”
