Clippers, Knicks talk trade involving Darren Collison, Iman Shumpert

The Clippers and the New York Knicks have engaged in trade talks centering around Clippers backup point guard Darren Collison and Knicks shooting guard Iman Shumpert, according to NBA executives who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

With shooting guard J.J. Redick out indefinitely with a bulging disk in his lower back, Shumpert would provide the Clippers with an athletic guard and Jamal Crawford could move from being a starter back to his sixth-man role.

Because Collison earns $1.9 million this season and Shumpert earns $1.7 million, the deal would work money-wise. However, according to the executives, other names have come up in the proposed deal, slowing progress toward an agreement.

They said the Clippers were unwilling to trade rookie swingman Reggie Bullock, whom the Knicks have interest in acquiring.

The Clippers would be willing to move small forward Jared Dudley to the Knicks, according the executives. After this season, Dudley has two more years left on a contract that pays him $4.2 million per season.

For their part, the Knicks are willing to part with point guard Raymond Felton, who will earn $4.1 million this season and has two years left on his deal after this season, the executives said.

But as the trade deadline of noon Pacific time Thursday approaches, neither team was apparently inclined to complete that deal just yet.
