Findings of investigation involving Jameis Winston to be released
So much for published speculation that findings on the sexual-assault investigation involving Florida State freshman quarterback Jameis Winston would not be released until after this weekend.
Willie Meggs, Florida’s state attorney, has scheduled a Thursday news conference in Tallahassee to address the Winston case.
“We think we have exhausted all investigative tools,” Meggs said in a story posted on ESPN.com news services.
The investigation is focusing on whether Winston sexually assaulted a female student last December, long before he became a national figure.
The timing of the announcement is huge because ballots for the Heisman Trophy are due Monday and Winston is the clear-cut frontrunner.
Winston has led Florida State to a No. 1 ranking and on Wednesday was selected Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year. The Seminoles will play Duke on Saturday for the ACC title. A victory in that game will earn Florida State a berth in the Jan. 6 Bowl Championship Series title game at the Rose Bowl.
