Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones once again stuck up for defensive end Greg Hardy, who made some pretty odd comments the other day during his first meeting with the media after serving a suspension related to a domestic violence case.

“Here’s the deal,” Jones said Friday morning on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas/Fort Worth. “Unless he looks like he’s contrite, unless he looks like he is just absolutely whipped, and really obviously sorry for what his situation, he’s going to get criticized. We all know that.”

Hardy was convicted of domestic violence by a judge in North Carolina in 2014 and given 18 months probation. Charges were dismissed earlier this year when prosecutors were unable to locate the victim, who failed to appear in court.

During a 12-minute interview on Wednesday, Hardy was upbeat and even jovial at times, no matter what reporters asked. Questions referring to the circumstances that led to his suspension were purposely misconstrued and given a football spin.

(Example: When asked if he felt he’d been found guilty and needed to prove himself innocent through the whole process, Hardy answered, “For getting sacks?”)

Jones said Hardy was just being himself.

“Most of the comments are going to go the wrong way if they have any element of being positive, of being aggressive, of being the way you want to be as a football player as far as your attitude is concerned,” Jones said. “He has that attitude. It’s not just talk. It’s not just in front of a bunch of cameras. That’s what he is and he is that way. He’s very aggressive out there. He’s very positive. He’s very confident in his ability to make a difference.”

Hardy said he would come out Sunday with “guns blazing,” a phrase many feel is inappropriate for him to use, given his circumstances. Earlier in the week, Jones defended his player’s choice of words. “We all know that’s just a way of expressing yourself,” Jones told SI.com. “I hope his guns are ablazin’.”

On Friday, Jones reiterated that Hardy’s words were misinterpreted. “They probably asked him so many questions -- sometimes I’ll get questions and then I’ll have five or six of them that have nothing to do with what the writer ultimately writes and then he has it put on by some colleague some other way,” Jones said. “You never know where it’s coming from.”

Hardy also rankled many people with his comments about New England quarterback Tom Brady’s wife, Giselle Bundchen. “Have you seen his wife? I hope she comes to the game. I hope her sister comes to the game, all her friends come to the game.”

Jones also has no problem with those remarks. The Cowboys owner told SI.com: “When I saw him marry [Gisele], Tom went up in my eyes 100%. She’s very very attractive, and it shows what an outstanding individual Tom is.”

On Friday, Jones said he still doesn’t see what the big deal is, since Bundchen is a model. “Tom just happens to be married to a lady that’s absolutely one of the premier people in the world of working and making people say she’s beautiful. Do you agree with me? That’s what they do. They get up in the morning and go to bed at night having people say she’s beautiful. So a lot of people, when they talk about Tom Brady, they talk about how beautiful she is.”
