LeSean McCoy says he has no intention of shaking hands with Chip Kelly

The working relationship between Philadelphia Coach Chip Kelly and former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy did not end well.

We’ll see how their non-working relationship goes when Philadelphia hosts Buffalo on Sunday. Both men say they haven’t spoken since before McCoy was traded to the Bills during the off-season.

Kelly told reporters during a conference call Wednesday that he hopes to offer a gesture of friendship to his former player.

“I’d love to shake LeSean’s hand,” Kelly said. “I tried to call him after [the trade]. And I talked to his agent after we traded him. I always wanted to talk to LeSean. Again, I have no issues with LeSean at all. He has a great personality, an infectious personality. I have tremendous respect for LeSean.”

But McCoy told reporters Wednesday he had no intention of shaking Kelly’s hand or having any other kind of contact with his former coach.

“I’m not talking to Chip,” McCoy said. “We have nothing to talk about. He can’t call me, he can’t shake my hand. There’s nothing he can do. He can’t say ... to me. It’s as simple as that. I don’t dislike him. I don’t have nothing against him. There’s just nothing for us to talk about. He knows that. He knows me. He knows how I am. He knows how I act. There’s nothing he can tell me. There’s nothing for us to talk about at all.

“I don’t see what’s the big thing of talking to somebody. We have nothing to talk about. I’m with the Bills, he’s with the Eagles. We never had no great relationship as friends. There’s nothing really to talk about.”

Weeks after the trade went down, McCoy spoke of Kelly to ESPN the Magazine: “You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest.”

On Tuesday, McCoy stood by those statements.

“Some things you may say from anger, and I was definitely angry, but I’m not going to change anything I say,” McCoy said. “I stand by everything I said before. I don’t have no problems with Chip or nothing like that. No hatred. But I stand by it. I don’t take it back.”

He added: “One thing about myself, I will take back nothing I say. I have my own reasons to feel how I felt. The difference between me and other players is, they won’t say how they feel. I’m different. I speak how I feel. But I don’t want to relive it. I say what I said. It is what it is. I have no issue with Chip. I don’t have no hatred toward him. [But] we aren’t best friends or nothing like that.”
