Jay Cutler defends yelling at Bears linemen in loss to Packers

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler defended his actions, which included berating his offensive linemen, after the Green Bay Packers dismantled Chicago, 23-10, with a blitzing defense that finished with seven sacks and four interceptions.

Cutler, who completed only 11 of 27 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, was seen coming off the field yelling at his offensive line. On at least one occasion, his stern words continued on the sideline.

“I’m not going to just walk to the sideline and act like everything’s OK,” Cutler said after the game Thursday night in Green Bay. “It’s just not going to happen.”

Cutler added that he’s not simply going through the motions or trying to blame others.

“I care about this,” Cutler said. “This isn’t a hobby for me. I am not doing this for my health. I am trying to win football games and get first downs. When we’re not doing the little things or not doing things the right way consistently, I’m going to say something. If they want a quarterback that doesn’t care, they can get somebody else.”

When reminded that earlier in the week he had wished the Packers good luck in trying to stop the Bears’ receivers in man-to-man coverage, Cutler had a quick reply: “They didn’t play, man, so why would they say anything?”

Bears left tackle J’Marcus Webb, who appeared to be the focus of at least one Cutler tirade, took the high road when posting to Facebook.

“There is nothing like having a bad game, but when you have it, you have to deal with it correctly,” Webb wrote. “It’s not how one deals with a win. How does one deal with a loss or bad game? I’m no different than you. Time to prepare. Go Bears!”
