Rajon Rondo is interning at GQ during New York Fashion Week

Even though Rajon Rondo is a millionaire, he accepted an internship position with GQ magazine during Fashion Week in New York City.

Rondo, a guard on the Boston Celtics, will be working for the magazine this month before the NBA season begins in October.

It’s cool to see basketball players experimenting with other professions. Last summer during the extended NBA lockout, Metta World Peace dabbled in comedy and music production. Kevin Love tried his luck with volleyball. Kobe Bryant, on the other hand, joked with The Times that if he weren’t playing basketball, he’d be a bum.

Rondo has always shown an interest in fashion.

He used the big stage of the NBA playoffs as his own personal runway in May. Check out this outfit, which features a black and white striped jacket with a tan and black lapel.

“I love the set-up so far and I’m having fun. I’m still a rookie at this,” said Rondo in a news release. “I’m humble. Anything GQ needs me to do — getting coffee — I’ll do. In my position, I haven’t done things like this in my entire life. It’s fun doing what I do, but it’s nice getting the flip side of that 9 to 5.”

Here’s what GQ’s Mark Anthony Green posted on the magazine’s website about Rondo.

“Fashion Week is our busiest time of year — between the shows, presentations and, ya know, posing. We needed a little help, someone to run point back at home base and on the ground floor at Lincoln Center. Who better than NBA All-star — and all around stylish dude — Rajon Rondo?

“Rajon will be interning at GQ for the next few days, helping our game out and learning a thing or two about menswear and the magazine industry. You’ll see interviews, critiques, and blog post from the future hall-of-famer popping up all week. And from the tip-off of his time on our team, it doesn’t seem like he left his competitive instinct back in Beantown. Other interns, beware.”
