Poll: Do you agree with the NFL upholding Tom Brady’s suspension?
After more than a month of waiting, we finally know the result of Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension by the NFL for his role in the New England Patriots' deflategate scandal.
In a ruling announced Tuesday, the NFL said it upheld the suspension because Brady impeded a league-commissioned investigation by destroying his cellphone.
Commissioner Roger Goodell "found that Brady’s deliberate destruction of potentially relevant evidence went beyond a mere failure to cooperate," the NFL said in a statement.
The punishment was first handed down in May, stemming from a report by investigator Ted Wells finding Brady was likely generally aware that equipment assistants had removed some air from the Patriots’ footballs for the AFC championship game Jan. 18 against the Indianapolis Colts. Underinflated footballs are easier to throw and catch.
Goodell imposed the original penalty and also heard the appeal.
