UCLA plays Saturdays, but the school has some former players who take the field on Sundays. Here’s a weekly blog featuring former Bruins and what they did in their NFL games:

Akeem Ayers, fourth-year linebacker for the Tennessee Titans: Ayers was a healthy scratch last week but appeared to be active for Sunday’s game. He didn’t record any stats, though, and the Titans lost to the Dallas Cowboy, 26-10.

Anthony Barr, rookie linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings: Barr had another solid, if not unspectacular, game in the second week of his young career. He recorded five tackles in Minnesota’s 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

Nate Chandler, third-year offensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers: Playing right tackle, Chandler was part of an offensive line that allowed five sacks. The Panthers also rushed for just 62 yards, averaging 2.6 yards per carry, but were still able to beat the Detroit Lions, 24-7.

Derrick Coleman, third-year fullback for the Seattle Seahawks: Coleman didn’t record any stats in the Seahawks’ 30-21 loss to the Chargers.

Joseph Fauria, second-year tight end for the Detroit Lions: The Lions didn’t do much offensively in a 24-7 loss to the Panthers, and Fauria had only one catch for 20 yards.

Kai Forbath, third-year kicker for Washington: After a rough start to the season last week, Forbath had a great game. He totaled 11 points, including five PATs and two field goals, in Washington’s 41-10 drubbing of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cory Harkey, third-year tight end for the St. Louis Rams: Harkey had two catches for eight yards in the Rams’ 19-17 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mike Harris, third-year offensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings: Harris wasn’t on the Vikings’ inactive list, but didn’t appear to play in their 30-7 loss to the Patriots.

Datone Jones, second-year defensive end for the Green Bay Packers: Jones recorded three tackles in the Packers’ 31-24 win over the New York Jets.

Maurice Jones-Drew, ninth-year running back for the Oakland Raiders: It didn’t take long for the injury bug to find Jones-Drew again. He spent his last season with the Jaguars dealing with foot problems and was held out of the second game of his Raiders’ career after getting a procedure done on his right hand. His replacement, Darren McFadden, ran for just 37 yards, and the Raiders lost to the Texans, 30-14.

Mercedes Lewis, ninth-year tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars: Lewis was one of the few bright spots in Jacksonville’s 41-10 loss to Washington. He caught two passes, including a touchdown, for 71 yards.

Jeff Locke, second-year punter for the Minnesota Vikings: Locke continues to kick well for the Vikings, as he averaged 45.6 yards on his five punts in a loss to the Patriots.

Cassius Marsh, rookie defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks: The fourth-round draft pick didn’t record any stats in the Seahawks’ loss to the Chargers.

Rahim Moore, fourth-year free safety for the Denver Broncos: Moore had four tackles in the Broncos’ 24-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Logan Paulsen, fifth-year tight end for Washington: Paulsen started in place of injured starter Jordan Reed. He didn’t record any catches but blocked well. Washington ran for 191 yards and won, 41-10.

Matthew Slater, seventh-year wide receiver for the New England Patriots: Slater is one of New England’s kick returners, but since the Patriots didn’t return any kickoffs in their 30-7 win over the Vikings, Slater didn’t record any stats.

Xavier Su’a-Filo, rookie offensive guard for the Houston Texans: After Houston’s starting left guard, Ben Jones, limped off the field on Sunday, Su’a-Filo received significant playing time in Houston’s 30-14 win over the Raiders. The Texans ran for 188 yards, and Su’a-Filo also played in goal line and jumbo packages.

Alterraun Verner, fifth-year cornerback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs lost in the last 10 seconds, 19-17, but Verner had eight tackles, the second-most in the game.

Christian Yount, fourth-year center for the Cleveland Browns: For the second week in a row, Yount had a negative play. He’s the Brown’s long-snapper, so he gets noticed only if something goes wrong. Last week, he had a false start penalty, and this week, he had a high snap on a failed PAT. The Browns still upset the New Orleans Saints, 26-24, though.

Two former Bruins have been placed on injured reserve and will not be playing this season. Those players are rookie linebacker Jordan Zumwalt (Steelers) and rookie wide receiver Shaquelle Evans (New York Jets).
