Egalitarian Transit

While I agree that what is being proposed with light rail, busways and carpool lanes is not going to keep up with the projected population and, hence, automobile growth, we have to realize that for too long we in Southern California were in an isolated mind-set of “it can’t happen here” in regard to the horrific traffic congestion we find ourselves in, morning, afternoon and well into the evening.

The point of mass transit is not only about relieving the roads of traffic and lessening pollution but also about bringing us out of our “us against them” mentality so prevalent here in the land where neighborhoods are segregated by freeways.

Please, let’s vote for more subways and light rail to keep the traffic flowing, our tempers calm and our outlook democratic and unprejudiced.
