'Dr. Oz' is a symptom of a larger TV sickness

To the editor: I gave up watching "The Dr. Oz Show" some time ago, as he recommended supplements to his viewers. I take several medications that can be very problematic when taken with supplements. ("Real-world doctors fact-check Dr. Oz, and the results aren't pretty," Dec. 19) The talk shows have changed drastically in the past few years. We are now inundated with advertisements, and some of the hosts push products to the audience. When I turn my TV on, for which I've paid a substantial cable fee, I am planning to watch the news, be entertained or be educated with a documentary. If I want to shop I will go to the local stores, my computer or the shopping...
