A federal appeals court Wednesday overturned former San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds' felony conviction for obstructing justice, leaving the federal government without a single conviction after a years-long and multimillion-dollar effort to prosecute the home run king. The 10-1 decision by a politically diverse panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals was a major defeat for prosecutors, who brought Bonds to trial in 2011 on perjury and obstruction charges.
