Mets third baseman David Wright has been scheduled for surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck.
The team announced Wright would have the operation on Thursday in Marina del Rey, Calif. The decision to proceed with surgery was made after weeks of tests, rest and anti-inflammatory injections.
New York did not reveal an estimated timeframe for Wright's potential return, but the 33-year-old captain is expected miss most of the remainder of the season — perhaps all of it.
