* at New York 7, Oakland 1: Richie Sexson hit a run-scoring single in his first at-bat with the Yankees, and Mike Mussina (12-6) pitched six effective innings to tie Cleveland’s Cliff Lee and the Angels’ Joe Saunders for the most wins in the league. He yielded eight singles and a double, but pitched out of trouble and did not walk a batter for the eighth time this season.

* at Minnesota 6, Texas 0: The Rangers were shut out for the first time this season. Glen Perkins held them to three hits. It was the first time Texas has been shut out since Aug. 19 of last season, when former Twins ace Johan Santana struck out 17 Rangers at the Metrodome. Perkins, a rookie left-hander, hasn’t lost a decision since May 30 against the Yankees.

* at Baltimore 7, Detroit 4: Luke Scott, who went into the All-Star break in a one-for-21 slump, hit two homers -- a solo shot in the second inning and a game-clinching, two-run drive in the eighth.
