Indians put Jason Kipnis on disabled list

The slumping Cleveland Indians placed All-Star second baseman Jason Kipnis on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a strained side muscle. Kipnis, who signed a six-year, $52.5-million contract at the start of the season, is expected to miss three to five weeks for the Indians, who have lost six straight and are tied for last in the AL Central.
