‘The Sound of Music’ hits the waves on Princess cruise ships

Share

Princess Cruises and “The Sound of Music” turn 50 this year. To celebrate the common golden anniversary, the cruise line will be showing the classic film aboard its 18 ships starting this month.

Passengers can start practicing for sing-alongs and study up for trivia contests about the Von Trapp family. Activities will accompany screenings of the Julie Andrews-Christopher Plummer favorite that will begin in mid-April.

Princess on Tuesday announced an agreement with Fox Home Entertainment to show the film, which won five Academy Awards in 1966 including best picture.

“The Sound of Music” will be shown once on each Princess sailing on the top deck, pool-side “Movies Under the Stars” screens. Screenings with sing-alongs will be held in the Princess Theater.

(Passengers can brush up on their “Do-Re-Mi” or “Climb Every Mountain” with others for a special Princess Pop Choir performance.)

Feeling lucky? Princess is doing something else for its golden anniversary. Anyone can enter the cruise line’s 50th Anniversary Sweepstakes to win a cruise for two plus a $500 onboard gift card. One prize will be given away every month through December.

Princess cruises — from three days to more than eight days — from Los Angeles to Mexico. The line also sails from L.A. to the Hawaiian Islands, Tahiti and American Samoa on longer itineraries.
