Queen’s Diamond Jubilee: $1,952 L.A.-London in business class

British Airways thinks 1952 was a very good year -- and a very good price for an airfare sale. Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne that year and celebrates her Diamond Jubilee this year. The airline has a special offer for those who want in on the celebrations: Fly in style in business class round-trip from L.A. to London or Manchester for $1,952.

The deal: Last-minute partiers may carve out time to fly across the pond and cash in on this deal. The big Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London are slated June 2-5, though there are on-going events on other dates around the country.

The Travel Like Royalty offer is good for outbound flights starting May 26 and returning by June 9. The price includes all taxes and fees. The $1,952 airfare also is good for travel to Britain from San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, New York City and other cities. Club World, as the airline’s business class is known, features flat beds for sleeping, meals and wine, and in-flight entertainment.

British Airways launched this deal Wednesday, and American Airlines matched it. American’s Royal Treatment sale for business class from L.A., Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, New York and other cities to London costs $974 each way. The sale ends 9:59 Pacific time Friday; fliers must leave between May 26 and June 9 and return by April 11, 2013.

When: The sale ends 11:59 p.m. Pacific time Friday.

Tested: In checking British Airways flights, I found availability leaving L.A. for London on June 1 and returning on June 8. The cost came to $1,947 (slightly below the special rate). Typical rates for business class in checking random dates started about $1,682 each way, not including tax and fees.
