Sonoma County: Harvest, then stomp grapes at California wine camp
Wine lovers, prepare to go camping in California’s wine country -- no tents required.
Sonoma County Winegrowers is offering what it calls “a fantasy boot camp for wine and food enthusiasts” during the September harvest that gives participants a close-up of winemaking, from picking grapes in the field and stomping them to blending wines with a pro.
Sonoma County Grape Camp features three days of winery tours, cooking classes and wine blending seminars with top winemakers and chefs. Participants stay at the luxury Vintners Inn in Santa Rosa for three nights.
From there, the weekend begins with dinner at Lynmar Estate in Sebastopol and then hands-on grape harvesting at Sangiacomo Family Vineyards and Schug Carneros Estate on Saturday morning. Group cooking, wine education and a blending seminar with Greg LaFollette of LaFollette Wines and a “graduation” reception and dinner follow on Sunday.
When: The camp is Sept. 23-25.
Price: $2,000 per person or $3,700 per couple. That includes lodgings for three nights, meals, tastings and group transportation. Transportation to Sonoma County is extra.
