Travel packages for the 2013 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio this month are probably the most decadent way to do the big desert fest, but so what? If you’ve got money to spend, buying a package to the sold-out event features a hotel room, festival pass and shuttle for three glorious days.

The festival runs on two weekends — April 12 to 14 and April 19 to 21 — with headliners Blur, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phoenix and more than 170 other musical acts. Tickets priced at $399 for a three-day pass and shuttle sold out quickly when they went on sale in January.

But as of Monday (today), all-inclusive travel packages with high price tags were still available. For Weekend 1, La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta offers the package with general admission passes for two for $3,249, or $1,624 each; other options are sold out. The hotel is about five miles from the fest’s venue at Indio’s Empire Polo Club.

The Riviera Palm Springs Resort in Palm Springs, about 25 miles from the fest, still has packages for general admission that cost $2,689 for two and $3779 for four. Packages with VIP passes cost $3,679 for two and $5,779 for four.

The tony Saguaro Palm Springs in Palm Springs features packages with general admission passes for $2,549 for two and $3,449 for four. VIP packages cost $3,499 for two and $5,359 for four.

The three hotels also show availability for Weekend 2 as well.

Incidentally, the passes are wristband-driven and there are specific instructions on the website as to how to put the wristband on (too loose, you won’t get in; damaged in some way, you won’t get in).

And what about those Coachella tickets for sale on sites like StubHub and eBay? The festival website warns against buying from a third party or scalper. “There will be no customer service, authentication or guaranteed support for passes purchased from a third party/scalper.”

Check out the travel packages and make reservations online at the festival’s website.
