San Diego: Book a suite at US Grant and second night costs $1.02
Ridiculously cheap room rates always catch my eye because sometimes they aren’t too good to be true. The US Grant Hotel in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter celebrates its 102nd year by offering a second and fourth night in a luxury suite for $1.02 a night.
The deal: The hotel at 326 Broadway is one of those grande dames with chandeliers-and-pillars charm. The expansive lobby and marble main staircase are as they were when the 270-room hotel opened more than a century ago. And, in case you’re wondering, it was named to honor President Grant.
Suites here aren’t cheap, but the Suite Anniversary Offer might take the edge off the price of a holiday splurge. From my online check, suites start at $644 a night plus tax, which brings the nightly rate down to $323 (half the cost plus $1.02). The discount applies to second and fourth nights, with a two-night minimum.
When: The offer is good on rooms through Dec. 30.
Tested: I checked on a Christmas stay Dec. 24 to 26 and found the cheap second-night deal available for a Legacy Suite. The first night costs $644 plus tax. Note that if you book online, the bill reflects two nights at the full rate; it will be adjusted later to include the discount.
