Las Vegas: Pride parade and festival set for Sept. 6 and 7
Gay pride will be evident in Las Vegas with a parade Sept. 6 and a daylong festival Sept. 7.
The colorful procession through the streets of downtown Las Vegas -- this will be its 15th year -- kicks off at 8 p.m. It will be led by grand marshal Edward Padilla, an HIV/AIDS activist in Southern Nevada for nearly three decades.
Popular drag queen Frank Marino and his cast from Divas Las Vegas at the Quad will serve as celebrity grand marshals.
Prizes will be awarded for the best walking units, vehicle units and floats.
From noon-10 p.m. on Sept. 7 members of the LGBT community and their friends will gather for the annual Pride Festival at the Clark County Amphitheater, just north of the junction of Interstate 15 and Charleston Boulevard.
The celebration will include live entertainment, more than 100 exhibitors and food and drink tents. There will also be a family activity zone where parents and kids 12 and younger will find a variety of events.
Tickets, available at the gate, cost $15 for adults and $10 for youths ages 6-17. Children 5 and younger will be admitted free.
A free shuttle will ferry guests to the festival grounds from the parking lot at the nearby World Market Center.
