Caves, monkeys, sailboat races? Britain 2014 Guide shows you where

There’s more to see in Britain than Buckingham Palace and the London Eye, such as ancient caves and an estate where live monkeys roam free.

The digital Britain 2014 Guide is easy to download and puts forth fresh ideas for first-timers and returning Anglophiles who are visiting anytime soon.

The deal: The VisitBritain guide profiles the entire country and is free. It’s available to download to your desktop, smartphone or tablet. Each entry has full-color photos and links on where to find detailed information.

Highlights include:

—”12 of the Best British Experiences,” which includes a tour of Queen Elizabeth II’s home at Windsor Castle, a hike to the top of 3,560-foot Mt. Snowdon in Wales and a trip to the Isle of Wight to witness the Cowes Week sailing regetta held every summer.

—”Top 10 Family Days” shares ideas of things to do with kids. On the list are the dramatic stalactites and stalagmites of Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset and a walk at Trentham Estate, where 140 barbary macaques thrive in the woodlands. And there’s dinosaur hunting (fossils anyway) in Dorset, along what’s called Britain’s Jurassic Coast.

—”Daphne du Maurier’s Cornwall” offers a glimpse of the land and the life of the 20th century author of the novel “Rebecca.” Self-guided tours take visitors to the mansion that inspired the book’s fictional Manderley, and the Jamaica Inn, which du Maurier wrote about in a novel by the same name.
