A man who displayed signs of “stimulant drug use” crashed his Mercedes-Benz through a gate at Riverside Municipal Airport this morning and tried to steal a small airplane before being arrested, authorities said.

Police said Orlando Brown, 25, of Riverside rammed through the gate and two chain-link fences at 6:08 a.m., then began looking at several planes parked on the tarmac. He entered one and attempted to turn over the ignition but was arrested before he could start the aircraft, said Steven Frasher, a spokesman for the Riverside Police Department.

“Brown displayed objective symptoms of stimulant drug use and was in possession of drug paraphernalia,” Frasher said in a statement.

Brown was hospitalized for evaluation, and criminal charges are possible, Frasher said.
