Gregg Allman rocks out in Las Vegas in October

Blues rocker Gregg Allman returns to The Pearl at the Palms on Friday, Oct. 9.

Allman hit the music scene more than four decades ago with The Allman Brothers Band, which he started with his brother Duane in 1969. Four years later he went solo after his brother died.

The singer, organist and songwriter’s debut album “Laid Back” came out in 1973 with reworked Allman Brothers songs, including the Southern rock classic “Midnight Rider,” and originals such as “Queen of Hearts.”

His other hits include “I’m No Angel” from the 1987 gold-certified album of the same name. Albums “Just Before the Bullets Fly” in 1988 and “Searching for Simplicity” in 1997 followed. His latest album, “Low Country Blues,” came out 14 years later.

He has earned a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award for The Allman Brothers along with a Living Legend award from Classic Rock magazine in November 2014.

In August, he plans to release “Gregg Allman Live: Back to Macon, GA,” a live DVD and CD showcasing Allman and his eight-piece solo band, recorded in January 2014 at the Grand Opera House in Macon, Ga., where The Allman Brothers Band got their start.

The 16 tracks on the album include Allman Brothers songs such as “Statesboro Blues,” “Melissa” and “Whipping Post” and solo works including “Queen of Hearts” and “I’m No Angel.”
