Irvine jail evacuation update

The 1,049 prisoners at James A. Musick Branch Jail in Irvine were taken to Theo Lacy Jail in Orange and the Inmate Reception Center in Santa Ana, said Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The jail is in the path of the Santiago Canyon fire, Amormino said.

‘The smoke has gotten thicker and the flames are now in sight,’ Amormino said. ‘The flames are about 1,000 yards from the prison.’
