The morning becomes hectic with Rams firing coach

Actually, this entire week promises to be hectic, in a good way.

But let me start with this: Do any of you still miss the Rams?

We all know what a monumental mess Al Davis has made of the Raiders since they left Los Angeles.

But they still have a better record (1-3) than than Rams (0-4), who became the first team this season to fire their coach. They let Scott Linehan go today. Too bad. Everyone I know had Lane Kiffin in the pool.

As you can read from this column by Bryan Burwell, we’re very lucky to have the Rams -- in St. Louis.

Even though we haven’t had an NFL team since before Davis became a ghost of himself, this is still an NFL city. I went into a sports bar a couple of Sundays ago, the Dodgers were playing an important extra-inning game against the Giants, but all the televisions but one were turned to NFL games. The Dodgers were on a small screen in the corner, and I think I was the only one watching.

I was there for research purposes only, and I probably should have extended it to other bars and restaurants and church community centers, but I stopped at one. I know my limit.

About this hectic week: We will have a special section Wednesday on the baseball playoffs, with the Dodgers and Angels both advancing; the Lakers and Clippers open training camp; the Kings and Ducks play each other in an exhibition game Tuesday night in Anaheim as they close in on the regular season; USC and UCLA are in conference play Saturday.

And who knows what news might break? Lane Kiffin?
