Eric Milton‘s fairy-tale season with the Dodgers is over.

The sidelined No. 5 starter underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back and is expected to be out for at least three months. Milton, who spent the last two years recovering from Tommy John surgery, signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers over the winter and made his return to the majors in a start in Florida on May 16.

Milton was 2-1 with a 3.80 earned-run average in five starts for the Dodgers.

Candidates to replace him in the rotation include James McDonald, Eric Stults and Jason Schmidt.
