South Los Angeles: Man, 38, is fatally shot on the street

Damon Lamont Jones, a 38-year-old black man, was shot and killed outside a house in the 600 block of West 68th Street in South Los Angeles about 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20.

Jones and another man were standing out front when at least two people walked up and opened fire on them, according to detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Division. The other victim was in stable condition.

No immediate arrests were made, and it was unclear whether there were more than two shooters involved, but the two that witnesses saw fled on foot. Based on victims’ statements, police believe the shooting was gang-related.
