Fernando Garcia, a 21-year-old Latino man, was bludgeoned to death in a covered garage in the 200 block of North Breed Street in Boyle Heights on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008.

Las Vegas police arrested Adam Quintana, a friend of Garcia’s, in the killing.

Los Angeles police detectives said they did not know the motive for the killing, but they contend that Quintana used a hammer to kill Garcia and then wrapped his body in blankets and left him in a trash can at the residence.

A bloody hammer was found on a dresser in the garage where Garcia was killed.

‘There was a lot of cleanup, but it lacked in coverup,’ said Det. Jacob Dugger of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Quintana went to Nevada to stay with acquaintances, and he was arrested in Las Vegas on Friday, Nov. 28, on suspicion of murder.
