Girls’ golf: Brush your hair, not the green

I have the greatest respect for golfers and tennis players. In what other sport could athletes govern themselves in competition? Well, high school competition, anyway. John McEnroe might not have been very fun to play against.

It was with particular relish that I read about Santa Margarita and Mater Dei, and the incident involving Monarch golfer Arianna Kjos, if it could really be called an incident. According to the Register, the matter ended up moot, but it reiterates the ideal that in some arenas, it’s how you play the game.

Can you imagine a volleyball match officiated by players? Baseball? Basketball? Actually, maybe basketball could get away with it, because most of us grew up having to do that ourselves on school blacktops.

No harm, no foul, but good thing this didn’t happen on a blacktop.
