By most accounts Narbonne is rolling. The Gauchos (5-0) have scored the most points (201) and given up the fewest (52) of any Marine League team.

But Coach Manuel Douglas knows the Gauchos haven’t done anything remarkable yet.

‘We did what we were supposed to do,’ Douglas said. ‘We beat teams we should beat that, honestly, weren’t quite at our level.’

Friday’s league opener against Carson (3-2) kicks off the meaty portion of Narbonne’s schedule. Over the next three weeks, the Gauchos play Carson, Banning and San Pedro. And Carson appears to have shaken off its early season doldrums.

‘Carson could have been 5-0 with our schedule,’ Douglas said. ‘They are the best team I have seen to this point. They are really playing well.’

The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Daniels Field in San Pedro.
