As if Troy Thomas, Servite’s football coach pictured left, didn’t have enough to worry about during games, he’s appointed himself the Friars’ No. 1 cheerleader.

He wants his fans to make lots of noise, so Thomas has been jumping up and down during games the last two weeks, exhorting the Servite crowd to unleash noise.

‘I think we have very good fan support and like it when they get fired up,’ Thomas said. And Thomas has no problem encouraging the fans. ‘If I have to do it, I’ll do it.’

Victories over Santa Margarita and Orange Lutheran the last two weeks have the Friars in position to make their regular-season finale against Mater Dei on Nov. 9 at Angel Stadium a game that could decide the Trinity League championship.
