Some Orange County things that were worth watching over the weekend:
- D.J. Crumlich completed 20 of 30 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns as Irvine came from behind in its 28-25 Pacific Coast League victory over Beckman. D.J. Shoemate, D.J. Crumlich, either way, D.J. spells TD.
- Dan Morrison of St. Margaret’s rushed for two touchdowns in the first half and returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the second in a 70-20 nonleague victory over Western Christian. Either one of those halves alone would have been a good night.
- Michael Allain of Fullerton rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-7 Freeway League victory over Sonora. Will that be enough to beat La Habra next week?
Ruben Ortega, a sophomore, rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns for Western in its 43-12 Orange League victory over Magnolia. Just imagine what he would have done if he was a senior. Kane Wilson of El Dorado passed for four touchdowns and ran for another in a 42-6 Century League victory over Anaheim Canyon. The Golden Hawks’ defense is solid and its offense is in good hands, too. Nick Crissman of Edison completed 16 of 19 passes for 348 yards and three touchdowns in a 62-7 Sunset League victory over Marina. Who does he think he is, Matt Barkley? Cory Brandt of Trabuco Hills was eight-for-eight passing for 114 yards and three touchdowns -- all in the second half -- in the Mustangs’ 22-16 Sea View League victory over Foothill. Now that’s the way to win a starting job. Brett Giesen of Dana Hills carried 24 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in a 21-3 South Coast League victory over Aliso Niguel. After losing their first five games, the Dolphins have a tie and a victory in their two league games. - Martin Henderson
