It was gut check time for several teams in Week 7 and some performances were more impressive than others, but none were more eye-opening than the efforts from two emerging quarterbacks in Camarillo and Simi Valley. There were plenty of other highlights, too, including another standout effort from one of the nation’s most-prized recruits and a thrilling finish way up north. So, without any further delay, here’s a quick look at the best of the best:

Pass-happy Scorpions: Marcus Sanchez was at his best when it mattered most, completing 22 of 33 passes for 343 yards and four touchdowns, three in the fourth quarter, to guide Camarillo to a 37-7 Pacific League victory over Oxnard Hueneme. The senior has thrown for more than 300 yards in three of the past four weeks. It’s about time we learn more about this kid.

What didn’t he do? The Santa Paula defense had no answer for Kevin Ramay, who amassed 482 yards of total offense and scored six touchdowns for Simi Valley Grace Brethren in a 40-13 Tri-Valley League victory at Moorpark College. The junior threw for a career-high 411 yards for the Lancers (4-3, 1-1) and five touchdowns, on passes of 6, 7, 53, 17 and 21 yards. All in a night’s work, I suppose.

Great Scott: No surprise here, Ventura St. Bonaventure defeated Santa Barbara, 37-6, in a Channel League game behind another 200-plus yard rushing game from Darrell Scott, his fourth in seven outings. St. Joe’s on track: Russell Perkins rushed for three touchdowns as Santa Maria St. Joseph stayed in the hunt for a successful defense of the Los Padres League championship with a 21-20 overtime victory over Templeton. The Knights (6-1, 4-0), who haven’t lost a league game since 2005, remained tied for first place with Morro Bay (7-0, 4-0), a team they face in two weeks in a game with title implications.
