Saugus’ victory over Valencia was superb, and I wish I could have been on the sidelines at the Oak Park-Oaks Christian contest. Here’s a look at some other Week 7 highlights:

Those pesky Chargers: Just when you thought it was safe to start figuring out who’s going to finish where in the Marmonte League, Agoura gums up the works with a 33-27 victory over Moorpark. Of course, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out how the Chargers took this one -- QB Doug Shumway passed for 247 yards and three TDs and rushed for 68 yards and another TD.

Crushed spirit: In his first game against a team he led to three consecutive Southern Section divisional titles, Coach Jeff Cortez and his boys from Village Christian fell to Paraclete, 27-0. The Spirits, along with Duarte, are a favorite to challenge for the Mid-Valley Division title come December, but Village Christian is still looking that first victory.

He’s on it: QB B.R. Holbrook did his best to put on a one-man show in Hart‘s 36-15 victory over a die-hard West Ranch squad. Holbrook connected on 14 of 19 passes for 171 yards and three TDs. He also rushed for a TD.

200-yard clubber: Darrell Scott, the most coveted running back in the nation according to Rivals.com, rushed for 200 yards and two TDs in St. Bonaventure‘s 37-6 victory over Santa Barbara. Scott wasn’t the only Seraph hero -- the defense recorded 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage thanks, in part, to LB Ryan Panapa (foot) returning to the lineup.

Let’s talk about those Earwigs:
As Times’ stats guru Eric Maddy pointed out, here’s ‘a good excuse to work the Earwigs into a blog entry.’ Dunn linebacker Dominic Seagal tallied 12 tackles in the Earwigs’ 48-28 eight-man victory over Sierra Canyon. Now that’s the kind of game his father, action hero Steven Seagal, would be proud of.
