Behind an 11-0 run in the second quarter, the Rancho Verde boys’ basketball team has jumped out to a 31-16 halftime lead against Knight in the Southern Section Division II-A final at Honda Center.

Rancho Verde junior guard Mike Snaer scored 12 of his 14 points in the second quarter. He spent some time guarding Knight’s only real scoring threat, 6-8 senior wing Paul George, and helped keep him scoreless. In fact, George hasn’t scored since his fast-break layup gave the Hawks a 9-2 lead.

Rancho Verde is quickly looking like one of the jewels of the Inland Empire when it comes to athletics. They had a pretty good football season and was strong last spring in track and field. It helps the Mustangs have some of the nicer athletic facilities you’ll see anywhere in the Southland.

Anyway, Knight better find a way to get George hot again or this game could turn out like the Division III-AA final.
