Would you believe UCLA-bound guard Jrue Holiday watched most of the first half as freshman Austin McBroom carried Campbell Hall in the Division IV state final against Albany St. Mary’s?

That’s right, Holiday picked up his third foul with 5:29 left in the first half while harassing Chris Brew in the back court. The only good thing was the Vikings were on top, 27-15, at the time. St. Mary’s made a run to pull within five points, but the Vikings scored the final nine points of the half to take a 42-28 lead.

Several writers at courtside have the Vikings with only 40 points. It wouldn’t be totally unheard of for the score to be wrong here. Taylor King of Mater Dei was credited with a basket he never made in the Division II final last year.

Back to McBroom. The starting guard is averaging 6.9 points a game, but has a game-high 14 points at the half, hitting on six of 10 field-goal attempts.

Dallas Rutherford, who also picked up two fouls in the opening quarter, has 10 points and Holiday has nine in slightly more tha eight minutes of play.
