I guess it was no fluke that Janae Fulcher, Dominique Conners and Chelsea Burns scored the first 12 points for La Jolla Country Day. The seniors combined for all 34 of their team’s points during the first half of the Division IV girls’ state final against Vallejo St. Patrick/St. Vincent.

Fulcher, a 6-foot-3 post player who has signed with Arizona State, has 12 points, as does Conners (San Diego), and Burns (Utah State) has 10 points, helping the Torreys to a 34-28 halftime lead at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

Here’s a recent story in the San Diego Union-Tribune on the senior leadership on Country Day. She had a good role model in Candice Wiggins (No. 11 pictured), a former Country Day standout who now stars for Stanford.
