Baseball: Division I semifinal goes to extra innings

Consecutive singles with one out by Aaron Northcraft, Brian Frattali and Derek Campbell in the bottom of the seventh allowed Mater Dei to score the tying run against fourth-seeded Simi Valley and send their Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal into extra innings.

Campbell’s single against Jonathan Meyer, who was brought in from shortstop, was on an 0-and-2 pitch and scored pinch-runner Kevin Francke from second base to tie the score at 5-5. Meyer got the next two batters to strike out, so it’s on to the eighth inning, with a Friday night trip to Dodger Stadium on the line.
