Baseball: It’s already a wild Division I semifinal

After Simi Valley scored three runs and had four hits in the first inning of its Division I semifinal game at UC Riverside, Mater Dei responded with four runs in its half of the first inning.

A two-run double by Derek Campbell and a two-run single by Seth Smith off Nick Russo puts the Monarchs on top, 4-3.

Russo is considered Simi Valley’s best pitcher, so it’s good news for Mater Dei that the Monarchs are hitting well.

Six more innings to go.
