Fourth-seeded Simi Valley had a chance to tie its Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal game against Mater Dei in the fifth inning at UC Riverside.

Chance Cross lined a single to left and pinch-runner Robert Toczynski tried to score from second base on the hit. Toczynski touched home plate successfully, but Mater Dei appealed that he had missed touching third base. The umpire agreed, and that was the end of Simi Valley’s scoring opportunity.
