Let’s just say right now that Norco junior first baseman Matt Hobgood might be the player of the year in Southern California. He came into Tuesday’s Southern Section-Toyota Division I semifinal against Long Beach Wilson with 15 home runs and a 10-0 pitching record.

He’s not pitching, but he sure is hitting. He had an RBI double in the first inning, helping Norco cut its deficit to 2-1 after one inning at UC Riverside.

It could become a battle between a certain first-round draft pick, Aaron Hicks of Wilson, and a future first-round pick, Hobgood.
